Wednesday Word is where I define and discuss a medical term , like this one.

endemic- natural to or characteristic of a particular people or place

Medically speaking, an endemic disease occurs in a particular place or a particular population; for example, malaria is endemic to tropical areas; malnutrition is endemic to people suffering from famine.

Related words are

epidemic– a sudden severe outbreak of a disease in a particular location or group , such as influenza epidemics.

pandemic– an epidemic becomes wide spread, across countries and continents

KAWAIAHA‘O CHURCH,

Honolulu, O’ahu, Hawaii

“On April 23, 1820 the first company of missionaries of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions established the first Christian Mission on the Island of Oʻahu to bring the good news of Jesus to the people of Hawaiʻi.

Reverend Hiram Bingham preached “Nu Oli”- for I bring you tidings of great joy! The church was established on the grounds of Kawaiahaʻo – which translates to “the waters of Chiefess Haʻo”.

Known as the “Mother Church” of Hawaiʻi, Kawaiahaʻo Church for 200 years stands as a testament of Christian Aloha to all!”

I also wrote about Hawaii at this link-

“Over the Rainbow”-and a Volcano in Hawaii

This post reflects on my memories of Hawaii. Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” highlights his unique voice and connection to Hawaiian culture. I share my personal experiences in Hawaii, encouraging your future adventures there.
